Rockschool Youth Festival, the only youth festival for Bridgend County Borough including music, street dance, urban sports, media bus, youth info village and an

original rock opera will be at BridgendRecreation Centre from 27 th March. Organised by Bridgend College and Bridgend County Borough Council's Arts & Culture Service,

Youth Service and Active Young People's Department, an exciting line up of innovative events for young people aged 18 years and under is on offer.

 

“Battle of the Beats” – Friday 27 th March from 7pm to 11pm

This under 18 years only dance music event will feature the county borough's freshest young talent including DJ Dan C cutting up the vinyl along with MC Jamie Jones on the mic. The dance stage will explode with foot stomping performances from Bridgend County Borough's Council's Active Young People's Department' s urban dance crews mixed in with spicy Asian flavours of the Bad Bikes Indian Dhol drumming group from Ogmore Valley . With huge video screens, “Light Graffiti” (painting with light) and special guest appearances a great night is guaranteed for all. Entry is £5 (on the door).

“Just Ask” Youth Village & ''Battle of the Boards, Blades & Bikes'' - Saturday 28 th March from 11am to 6pm

In our “Just Ask” youth village, young people will have the opportunity to “just ask” to find out information on any topic that concerns them. Two media buses will feature a chill out area, on board DJ workshops and a video screening area containing footage created by young people as part of the Y.I.K.E.S. TV project and from Bridgend College media students. Further workshops will include “Light Graffiti” (slow shutter speed digital photography involving LED lights) and Indian Dhol Drumming by accomplished player and tutor Sunny Sagoo. Our urban sports arena will play host to our “ Battle of the Boards, Bikes & Blades” competition for 18 years and under where competitors can register on the day to take part.

“Battle of the Bands” - Saturday 28 th March from 6.30pm to 11pm 

A night of rock featuring the young talents of bands throughout the county borough with Pathonax, A Day of Heroes, Levin Street ,

Certain Call, High Demand, Sink or Swim, Addison Avenue and the Zetas. For strictly 18 years and under, the night also includes huge video

screens, “Light Graffiti”, fun audience interaction catwalk and air guitar competitions and a punchy, gritty drama spectacle on the theme

of “Image” performed by Porthcawl Comprehensive School 's Drama Department.

Tickets are £5 and are available on the night.

“Guitar Legend” – Wednesday 1 st April to Friday 3 rd April

A two man fight for rock stardom…let the battle begin! Performed by students from Bridgend College ,

“Guitar Legend” is a classic “teacher - student” rivalry tale with a modern twist. Full of action, humour,

romance, lots of rock and roll, video technology, expert musicianship and an unrelenting story , “Guitar

Legend” ensures an unforgettable experience for all ages! Director Phil Jones, Head of Bridgend

College Music and rock and roll veteran said ” the music these students have put together is simply 

stunning. Kate from the Welsh National Opera and Anita Flowers, a professional author, has given the 

students the tools they needed to make something truly special” . Tickets are priced at £5/£4 group

bookings and are available by calling 01656 302381.
